Future Trips

This will be a nice walk through the woods visiting  Dunsmore,Buckmoorend,Whiteleaf, Ellesborough & finishing in the Russell Arms for a drink or two.

A challenging walk made up of field paths & bridleways with 37 stiles (not true-- now kissing gates & a few stiles.)  We propose to start from the garden centre at Great Gaddesden  & make our way via Highpark Wood to Gaddesden Place. Then there are certainly 2 hills to ascend after which the route levels off nicely. This being a circular walk, it then follows that there must be a descent--in this case with fine views of the Gade valley laid out before us.
There are no pubs or tea rooms along the way so bring refreshments with you.

Our Quiz Nights are  great fun and normally very well supported. This event is open to non-members as well as paid-up Boggies. Teams will be of two to four people but do not worry if you are unable to raise your own team these can be organised on the night. A raffle will be held during the evening and all profits will be donated to this year's Bogtrotters chosen charity - Keech Cottage. There will be a chance a chance to buy hot drinks and cake, but you are welcome to bring your own refreshments. Your Quizmaster for the evening will be Joanne Robertson.

Rural walk through a mixture of gently undulating countryside and a section of the Grand Union Canal.Optional pub stop at end.

A circular walk starting from Ampthill  taking in the surrounding countryside, to the west of Ampthill including sections of the Greensand Ridge Walk.
Refreshments may be available at the start & end,but suggest you bring a drink & snacks. There may  a pub stop at lunch time.

Bus to Toddington.  Walk back to Dunstable via Tingrith and Milton Bryan.

Bus from The Square, Dunstable to Piccotts End.  Walk back to Dunstable  via Potten End, Frithsden, Nettleden, Little Gaddesden, Dagnall, Whipsnade, D/Downs.

Circular walk starting at the 3 Locks  car park,taking in a canal walk,various types of footpaths & bridle ways  to Rushmere  Country Park & Lodge.Then making our way back to the start.
This would be classed an easy to medium walk with some hills.
Refreshments may be available at Rushmere & Stockgrove Park, also a pub stop at the end.

Walking in a spectacular area of the Chiltern Hills west of High Wycombe passing through the villages familiar to those who watch The Vicar of Dibley and Midsomer Murders.Pub stop at lunch time in National Trust village of Hambledon.

Back by popular demand.  18 of us went last time and everyone said how good it was.
You pay £13.90 and order what you want from their menu and they cook it all freshly for you (no greasy help yourself bowls of food which may have been hanging about).  PLEASE ENSURE YOU TELL EILA YOU ARE COMING asap AS SHE NEEDS TO BOOK NUMBERS WITH THE RESTAURANT.

Bus to Harpenden.  Walk to St Albans via Nomansland, Colemans Green, Sandridge, Childwick Green.  Aiming to be in Verulam Road by about 4pm to catch 34 bus to Dunstable.

This will be a gentle walk in this green rural area not far from home.

Starting at Sundon Hills car park we will walk to Harlington before circling back to Sundon via Sharpenhoe and a beautiful ridge walk. One sharp climb but otherwise a gentle walk around John Bunyan`s ` Delectable Mountains`

This is being run by the Friends of Studham Common (we do conservation work for the FOSC from time to time).  They are offering us their spare places so if you are interested you must email (or ring) Pam.. The Friends of Studham Common are running this and have spare places. Here's what's on offer, all for the princely sum of £9.50 per person: a guided tour of the Mill, which is a fully restored Grade II listed watermill, set on the River Ivel and which boasts the widest overshot water-wheel in the country. Lunch (sandwiches, cake and a drink) in their riverside Tea-Room, where you can also see a display of paintings by local artists.  For another £2 you can get soup and a roll as well. a guided tour of the Nature Reserve set in the Mill Meadows, which has lots of interesting wildlife to see, including otters and water-voles.The Shop, where you can buy, crafts and produce, including their stone ground flour. They will be organising car sharing from Studham starting at 10 a.m. They can arrange car-sharing once they know who's coming. You can also meet them at the mill at 11 a.m. the tour finishes at about 3pm

This second Treasure Hunt around Dunstable will again finish with a Ploughman's at Wendy's.  The routes will mainly be the same as previously and the organiser's decisions will be final!  There will be a £2 entry fee please.

This will be a figure eight walk starting from Gaddesden Row stopping at The Chequers pub for lunch &  returning to the pub for a late afternoon drink.
People can join for the morning or the afternoon walk--- a walk covering a variety of paths, bridleways, road walk,hills  & the occasional stile--classed as medium to hard walk.

Bus to Harlington (change at Toddington).  Walk back to Dunstable via Sharpenhoe, S/Clappers, Upper Sundon, etc.

Another of Roger`s meanders around Lilley & the surrounding area with its hills.
There will be a pub stop or two knowing Roger.

Starting at Pirton we will ascend the chalk downs to Deacon Hill & descend via High Down House back to Pirton,following part of the Icknield Way.
This would be classed as a moderate to medium walk with 1 stile,green lanes ,tracks & field paths.
There will be a pub stop at the end.But suggest you brings a drink & snacks anyway.

Bus to Tring.  Walk back to Dunstable via Tring Park, Tring Station, Ashridge, Ivinghoe Beacon, etc.

My first Boggie`s walk was led by Dave Tompkins and he quickly introduced me to the delights of the Woburn countryside by his regular walk leading around the area.
In memory of Dave, and to raise funds for the Keech Cottage Hospice, we are retracing some of these walks covering 4 different ones over the day. Please come, support, and see how many of the walks you can do! However,do save some energy for the BBQ at Les`s afterwards.
The 4 walks are 1. 7am-10am over to the golf course.
2. 10.30am-1pm around the Deer Park.
3. 1.30pm-4pm skirting the Safari Park.
4. 4.30pm-7pm to Potsgrove and back.

These hostels are less than 10 miles apart, so we plan to walk from one to another on the Saturday.
Cholderton YH is a four star hostel on a rare breeds farm.  Salisbury is a listed Geogian mansion in the centre of the city, due to close permanently soon, so this is a 'last chance' weekend.
Hopefully good walking on the Wiltshire Downs on Friday, and opportunities to visit Old Sarum and look round the city and cathedral on the Sunday.
Accommodation is £40.50 per person, food and transport extra.

  Thursday 2nd August - Monday 6th August 2012 walking in the Brecon Beacons.  We will be staying at  Penstar Bunkhouse the website is www.penstarbunkhouseandcottage.co.uk. The cost is £12 per person per night.

Sandra and I will  doing the catering i.e Tea and coffee beakfasts pack lunches and evening meals for each day.  We will include some soft drinks but not beer and wine. Not sure about the first night as we usually go to a pub for a meal (not included in price!) but have to find out if there is one near the bunkhouse if not we will cater for it.  The cost of the food will probally be between approximately £30 -£35 per person for the week-end.

We feel a maxium of 12 people will be more comfortable. So if you wish to come please let us know as soon as possible and send £10 deposit to Colin

Bus to Hemel Hempstead station.  After following the canal to Bourne End the route takes in Ashley Green, Hawridge, Cholesbury, Hastoe on the way to Tring.  Aiming to catch the 4.23pm 61 bus at the Rose and Crown.

Sue and Julian are going to The Chequers in Houghton Regis for a drink and a meal.  Wednesday is Curry night but there is also the usual menu available.  See website for information  http://www.pub-explorer.com/beds/pub/chequershoughtonregis.htm  This is not expensive and some meals  include a drink.
We are going to be there from 19.30 and will eat about 20.00
Just turn up.  It would be great if a few 'Bogtrotters' could join us for an enjoyable evening.

The Scarecrow Festival will be held between midday Friday 17th August and 5.00pm Sunday 19th August. For details and photos see www.flamstead-herts.co.uk. You can just wander round and enjoy the entertainment, or pay a small donation towards Herts Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre and vote on which of the 90+ scarecrows you think the best. This is an easy day, perhaps incorporating a couple of miles walking round Flamstead looking at scarecrows visiting stalls, pubs etc.

Bus to Little Brickhill.  Walk back to Dunstable via Woburn.

Mainly farmland tracks and paths, the route heads for Church End, Redbourn then skirts the northern fringes of Hemel Hempstead on the way to Briden's Camp for lunch/pub stop.  Then via Gaddesden Row back to the start.

Excellent walking on the South Downs.
