Future Trips

Bus to Marsworth.  Walk back to Dunstable via Ashridge and Milebarn Farm.

Take the Hemel Hempstead bus to the Packhorse.  Walk via Markyate, Flamstead, Pepperstock, Caddington and Blows Downs back to Dunstable.

Starting from Wheathampstead we walk to Ayot St Lawrence & Ayot Green before walking back along the River Lea. A undermanding walk through fields & woods .

This is a repeat  of the July walk ,but hopefully without the rain this time ?

A pub stop may be viable during  or at the end of the walk .

A easy walk , starting near the centre of Woburn  out to Speedwell cottages, then into the park & walk towards Paris House. We then leave the park  entering a small copse leading to Milton wood, where we pick up the Greensand Ridge path , which leads  us pass the Abbey & walking  through the grounds passing  Park Farm &  back to the starting point.

Covering paths that will be familiar to most of you, the walk takes in Sewell, Totternhoe, Eaton Bray, Whipsnade, Kensworth quarry and Dunstable Downs.

Bus to Little Brickhill.  Walk back to Dunstable via Woburn Deer Park.

A Day Walk around Stockgrove & Rushmere Park with a Lunch time stop at the Cafe in Stockgrove.

This would be classed as medium  to hard with plenty of hills .

Note there is a Parking Fee at The Parks  of £2.00.

Eversholt to Ridgemont,where there should be a cafe stop, and back via Woburn Park.Optional pub stop at the end. No stiles!

These are the dates of the Petra trip, 15 members are going.

11th to 18th

We follow the Wendover Arm canal branch back to Marsworth .

If time  permits we can check out the various bird hides to check the local wild life.

This is classed as a easy walk.

Walk back to Dunstable via Pulloxhill, Sharpenhoe, Upper Sundon, Chalton and Houghton Regis.

A 5-mile walk (possibly a little more) around the SSSI on my doorstep! The Two Moors Heritage Trail takes us from Flitwick Mill and follows the River Flit behind Greenfield to Flitton Church. The first of the two Moors, at Flitton, is passed as we head by the Grange, with Dunstable Priory connections, and Ruxox Farm to the second, Fliitwick.

I thought we would stay fairly local today. We will park at the bottom of Ivinghoe Beacons & head off towards Ivinghoe  ( unfortunately  no tea shop -now closed.)  We carry on to the Canal & follow this to Marsworth Resevoir  to our first tea stop or something stronger at the pub. Then we circle back to Ashridge to our final tea stop  at The Monument tea shop before finally making our way back to the cars.

This would be classed a  medium  to hard walk with Hills.

We will start our walk in Wendover.  We will be visiting Coombe Hill, Little Hampden, Kings Ash and then back to Wendover.  Hopefully a pub on route but bring a packed lunch just in case.

Afternoon walk based around Barton Hills and Pegsdon.

This walk contains some very varied landscapes and conservation areas. It is circular starting at Blows Downs (initial steep but short incline), goes via Skimpot and Caddington where we will stop for a break (village green/pub) then back to Blows Downs. Some hills but worth it for the great panoramic views. Bring drink/snacks

Bus to Piccotts End.  Walk via Flamstead and Markyate on back to Dunstable.

Bus to Leighton Buzzard station.  Walk back to Dunstable via Wing, Lower Ascott, Ledburn, Slapton, Eaton Bray, Totternhoe.

Bus to Fenny Stratford.  Walk back to Dunstable takes in Grand Union Canal, Stockgrove Park and Hockcliffe.

Bus to Leighton Buzzard station.  Walk via Burcott, Wingrave, Long Marston to pick up the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union canal at Wilstone.  Aiming to reach Marsworth by 3pm to catch the 61 bus back to Dunstable. (The next one is 90 minutes later)

Walk from the French's Avenue to Ivinghoe Beacon via the Downs, Whipsnade, Dagnall.  Return to Dunstable via Edlesborough, Eaton Bray and Totternhoe.

Bus to Leighton Buzzard station.  Walk to Little Brickhill via Stewkley and Stoke Hammond.  Aiming to  catch the 3.28pm X31 bus back to Dunstable. (The next one is 1 hour later)

  Thursday 2nd August - Monday 6th August 2012 walking in the Brecon Beacons.  We will be staying at  Penstar Bunkhouse the website is www.penstarbunkhouseandcottage.co.uk. The cost is £12 per person per night.

Sandra and I will  doing the catering i.e Tea and coffee beakfasts pack lunches and evening meals for each day.  We will include some soft drinks but not beer and wine. Not sure about the first night as we usually go to a pub for a meal (not included in price!) but have to find out if there is one near the bunkhouse if not we will cater for it.  The cost of the food will probally be between approximately £30 -£35 per person for the week-end.

We feel a maxium of 12 people will be more comfortable. So if you wish to come please let us know as soon as possible and send £10 deposit to Colin

The Scarecrow Festival will be held between midday Friday 17th August and 5.00pm Sunday 19th August. For details and photos see www.flamstead-herts.co.uk. You can just wander round and enjoy the entertainment, or pay a small donation towards Herts Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre and vote on which of the 90+ scarecrows you think the best. This is an easy day, perhaps incorporating a couple of miles walking round Flamstead looking at scarecrows visiting stalls, pubs etc.
