Here is a message from Don following our presentation to him on the occasion of his 70th birthday…..
May I express my grateful thanks for the array of riches I received on my 70th birthday. As someone who doesn’t “do” birthdays it came as a shock and an embarrassment to receive such a plethora of birthday cards (including the beautiful collective one), birthday cakes etc. – and such a generous cheque.
One of the suggestions offered for the money was to donate it to the Elenydd Wilderness Trust who maintain two beautiful and remote hostels in mid-wales. At present they own Dolgoch Youth Hostel but have Tyncornell Youth Hostel on a leasehold, and have recently put out an appeal to raise money to purchase Tyncornell outright. This seems a fitting use for the money and so I propose sending them a cheque for £500 towards achieving this goal.
Many thanks again for your gifts and good wishes. Don
Some time ago we and the Dunstable Rotary Club raised funds for Access Gates for the disabled but were waiting for the County Council Rights of Way Group to find somewhere suitable for them to go. The good news is that 17 of these were installed on 5th November on the Ivinghoe Hills and we joined in on a 4.5km disabled ramble to try them out. See our little album of photos.
